2009: My Year in Review

It’s truly unlike me to “commemorate” publicly. For some time, I’d been meaning to go through the photos I dump onto my computer without any semblance of organization, anyways. So, I was staring at all these pictures, and I realized that I really am grateful for a number of things (and people) that happened this past year.

Twitter has played a unique role in preserving and connecting memories of my own experiences—for the whole of 2009, I tweeted fairly continuously. I began to feel like I belonged to a fixed (but growing) community of friends, and that, over time, we somehow stitch together continuous narratives of others’ existences from this haphazard life-chronicling we do. If I had photos for the sentiments that so many accumulated silly-relatable mini-moments have engendered, I’d most certainly include them.

As for the rest of life, this year Pi (The Cat) and I parted ways with The [Old] Roommate, and moved in with an old friend, The [New] Roommate (@mcritz). I made some wonderful new friends—a number of them because of Twitter (@angleofattack, @eyemadequiet, @trick_or_tweet, etc.). It’s been a very difficult year for a couple of people that I care immoderately for, and I continue to be impressed by friends (and friends of friends) who are persistently present (which means more than just showing up), and who do and create wonderful things (@social_z, @jvyduna, and a plethora of people not mentioned here).

If you’ve followed me on Twitter for any length of time, you may recall my #recessionseries; this year, I got a new job that I love, working with people that I inevitably grew to adore. I also met The Wooer (@tcdavis) who’s an incredibly sweet and patient man, and who admires me for (or, at least, in spite of) my absurdities. (No plans to change his moniker.)
